The short answer
Mural installation in Fort Lauderdale means careful layout, wall prep, and panel-by-panel hanging so the image stays aligned and seamless. Because the area is humid much of the year, we acclimate materials and check walls for moisture before we start. We serve homes across Fort Lauderdale and nearby Broward County communities.
A wallpaper mural turns one wall into the focal point of a room, but only if the panels line up, the seams disappear, and the image sits where you meant it to. Custom Wallpaper Installer hangs murals in Fort Lauderdale homes, about 9 miles south of our base in Pompano Beach. We handle the parts that make murals harder than standard wallpaper: planning the layout around windows and outlets, prepping walls so they stay flat in South Florida humidity, and hanging each panel in sequence so the picture reads as one continuous image.
Why Murals Need a Different Approach Than Standard Wallpaper
Regular patterned wallpaper repeats, so a small misalignment can often be absorbed along a strip. A mural doesn't repeat. It's a single image split into numbered panels, and every panel has exactly one correct position. If the first panel goes up slightly off plumb, the error grows across the wall and shows up as a crooked horizon or a broken line in the design.
Before any paste goes on, we lay out the panels in order, confirm the numbering against the printed image, and measure the wall to decide where the focal point of the mural should land. Then we mark a true vertical line to start from instead of trusting a wall corner, since corners in many homes aren't perfectly square.
- Dry layout of all panels to confirm order and overlap
- Plumb reference line for the first panel
- Planning around windows, doors, switches and outlets so key parts of the image aren't cut off
- Trimming at ceilings and baseboards with the image position in mind
Preparing Walls for Fort Lauderdale's Humidity
Fort Lauderdale has a tropical climate with no fully dry season. From May through October it's hot, humid and wet, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. That moisture affects how paper and paste behave. Panels can expand slightly as they absorb humidity, and walls that hold moisture can cause adhesion problems or lifting seams later.
We check the wall surface before starting, repair cracks and dents, and smooth texture where needed so it doesn't show through the mural. Most walls get a primer suited to wallcovering, which helps the panels grip evenly and makes future removal easier. We also let materials acclimate in the room when the product calls for it, and we recommend running your air conditioning normally during and after installation so the space stays at a steady temperature and humidity.
Choosing the Right Wall and Mural Material
Not every wall is a good candidate. Accent walls in living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas and home offices tend to work well. Bathrooms without good ventilation and walls that get direct afternoon sun need more thought, since constant moisture and strong light can shorten the life of some materials.
Murals come in several types, and the material changes how we install them. If you haven't ordered yet, we're glad to look at the wall and talk through options before you buy.
- Paste-the-wall nonwoven murals: often easier to position and to remove later
- Prepasted or paste-the-paper murals: need careful booking time before hanging
- Vinyl-coated murals: more wipeable, useful in kitchens and kids' rooms
- Peel-and-stick murals: can work on smooth, well-primed walls but are less forgiving of humidity and texture
Scheduling Around the Seasons
We install murals year-round, but the calendar matters a little more here. November into April is warmer and drier, which can make for steadier indoor conditions. During the wet months we pay closer attention to indoor humidity and drying time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, so if a storm is approaching or your power may be out, it's usually smart to reschedule so the paste can cure in a cooled room.
